Big City Diner
Lane Muraoka is a local boy who wanted to bring delicious Local-American Comfort Food to Hawaii's neighborhoods and as his restaurants grew, these “neighborhoods” became part of our Big City Diner family. Our communities from the original location in Kaimuki (1998) to our newest location at Windward Mall in Kaneohe (2015) are a big part of Big City Diner’s success and they love to give back to those who have supported them throughout the last 24 years that they have been in business.
Big City Diner has worked with Lanikila Meal on Wheels, Big Brother Big Sister Hawaii, HUGS, AYSO, Special Olympics Hawaii, the Boys and Girls Club and many, many others. They also support several athletic programs on Oahu as well: University of Hawaii, Chaminade University and Hawaii Pacific University (HPU).
Big City Diner has always believed that giving is always better than receiving, it leaves their team with a satisfaction like none other. As they support their local communities and causes, they understand that they will reap benefits as they sow into others. It is not because they have to, it is because they want to, because they are honored to. Even as they went through the most challenging time during the pandemic, they realized that all these charities also suffered, they have continued to support those causes.
In addition to supporting the Hawaii community, Blue Zones Project® has named Big City Diner in Kailua as the very first Blue Zones Project Approved successfully completing the certification process which includes adding healthier menu options. Big City Diner in Kailua achieved Blue Zones Project Approved status by completing the Blue Zones Project Restaurant Pledge and adopting or supporting a selection of best practices from a menu of 35 options.
